Installing Cork as an app

Put Cork on your dock, taskbar, or phone home screen — it installs straight from the browser, no app store required.

Cork is a Progressive Web App, which is a fancy way of saying: your browser can install it. Installed, Cork opens in its own window with its own icon — no tabs, no address bar, just your corkboard — and it works the same on desktop and mobile.

On desktop (Chrome, Edge, Arc, Brave)

  1. Open cork.is/boards and sign in.
  2. Look for the install icon at the right end of the address bar (a small screen with a down arrow), or open the browser menu and choose Install Cork (some browsers say "Add to dock" or "Create shortcut").
  3. Click Install. Cork opens in its own window and lands in your dock, taskbar, or launcher like any other app.

In Safari on a Mac, use File → Add to Dock instead.

On Android

  1. Open cork.is in Chrome and sign in.
  2. Tap the ⋮ menuAdd to Home screen (on some versions: Install app).
  3. Confirm, and the Cork pushpin lands on your home screen. Opening it gives you the full app without the browser chrome.

On iPhone and iPad

  1. Open cork.is in Safari and sign in.
  2. Tap the Share button (the square with an arrow).
  3. Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen, then Add.

Safari is the one that can install on iOS — if you use Chrome on iPhone, open Cork in Safari just for this step.

What installing changes (and what it doesn't)

Installing gives you a dedicated window, a real app icon, and faster repeat loads. It does not change where your writing lives: your boards stay synced to your account either way, and you can use the installed app and the browser interchangeably.

One honest note: Cork needs an internet connection to load and save your boards. If you open the app offline, you'll get a friendly page saying so rather than your cards — nothing is ever lost, it's all waiting on the server.

Uninstalling

Desktop: right-click the app icon → uninstall/remove (or use the ⋮ menu inside the app window). Android: long-press the icon → remove. iOS: long-press → Remove App. Your account and boards are untouched — uninstalling only removes the shortcut.
